“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34
Dear Parents and Carers,
On behalf of St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, I extend a very warm welcome. We are a friendly and caring school. Ofsted has recognised St Mary’s as a ‘good’ school and we are constantly striving to improve and to provide the best possible education for our children. Our most recent SIAMS inspection (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) judged the school to be 'outstanding'.
As a Christian school, we have a clear vision that guides all we do, based on our unconditional love for all members of our community. The school's vision is underpinned by our Christian values, through which we develop children's character and help them grow into the adults they will become. Our values are reinforced through rewards, displays and our daily conversations with children.
At the heart of St Mary's School is a very strong offer of pastoral support to meet the personal needs of all our children. We put our values into action by prioritising children's well-being, which helps them to be ready to learn. Our Pastoral Support Worker helps to make children feel happy and secure in school and is an essential point-of-contact for parents.
At St Mary’s, we aim to provide a broad range of exciting opportunities to inspire and challenge children, and to help them achieve success. Above all, we strive to instil in children a sense of curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. We enrich our curriculum in a number of ways to inspire and develop our children. In sport, children represent our school in different year groups in a variety of team games including football, dodgeball, tag rugby and netball. Our children also take part in athletic events including Quad Kids and cross country. Sports clubs take place at lunch times and after school. In music, we provide an opportunity for children to play an instrument for a year lead by an experienced music teacher which culminates in the fantastic WCET music festival. This term we are looking to include a school rock band where instruments such as electric guitar, drums, bass and keyboard are taught.
School is fun at St Mary’s and we regularly have themed days to help with our learning and engage all. This term we have had a Roald Dahl Day where everyone dressed up! Later in the term we will enjoy a Times Table Rock Stars Day with the aim to make learning times tables enjoyable and accessible for all.
We take great pride in our strong partnership with parents and our position at the centre of the community. Our links with the church help us to develop well-rounded children, who are respectful of other people, places and cultures. At St Mary’s, we reinforce and develop the values and skills to assist children in their future life and learning, and to prepare them to become good citizens of the world.
I look forward to getting to know you and your children and sharing in their happy time at St Mary’s C of E Primary School.
Yours sincerely,
Matt Vale-Smith
