Apache Landing July 2024

St Mary's Primary school were extremely excited for our military guests!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Capt Lumb, Capt George, Cpl Topping-Green, LCpl Fisher, Cpl Doherty, Airtpr Bray, Airtpr Green who brought an Apache Helicopter to St Mary’s!

All of the children were so excited for this event! The whole school sat at the top of the field and watched as the Apache approached and landed on our field!

The children had a wonderful time looking at the different military equipment, Apache and the MAN SV truck! The children asked lots of questions and learned lots about the Apache AH64E.

We would love to give a big thank you to the Wattisham Team who were involved in this visit, it’s been an amazing experience for the children and staff too!

Wattisham Welfare Team Visit

This week we were very lucky to have visitors from Wattisham Airfield Welfare Team!

WO2 Minter and Captain Rees visited the school and spent time in each classroom talking about their roles in the military. The children were so engaged and excited to ask questions, show their work books and read stories with our visitors!

Thank you so much to WO2 Minter, Captain Rees and to the team at Wattisham Airfield for supporting todays visit!

Military Child Month 2023

Today we were very lucky to have two visitors;  WO2 Mills and Lance Corporal Fisher, who conducted a special assembly for Military Child Month.

The children enjoyed learning about different aspects of the military and watching Olive from Year 6 and Chance from Year 5 have a race getting into a special protective suit.

Thank you to our visitors and to all the children for getting involved with the day and celebrating Military Child Month!  Thank you to you all for donating generously - it is not too late to add to our total using the following link:

We have also been set a creative challenge to design an item  for the soldiers in the Hacker Space at Wattisham Flying Station to make using their amazing 3D printers - further details will follow!

Congratulations to Fraser who won the medal design competition with Babergh County Council, as a part of Armed Forces Day celebrations! Fraser did an amazing design inspired by his Dad! Fraser was invited to attend the Armed Forces Day Parade, and was given his prize by the Mayor of Hadleigh. Well done Fraser! St Marys are proud to support our Armed Forces families, and thank our service children for their support of their grown-ups, who do so much for our country.

Armed Forces Day 2022

The 25th of June is Armed Forces Day. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Sergeant Hargreaves explaining to the children what the day is all about. The children enjoyed learning about all the different branches of the Armed Forces.

The children have been invited by Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Council, to take part in a competition designing a Medal for their heroes. Entries to be put in the entry post box in school reception.

Celebrating Military Child Month!

To round off Military Child Month, we had a dress down day with money being donated to Little Troopers Charity.  It was so lovely to see all the children joining in and showing support for Military children.

We also had some military visitors, Staff Sergeant Mills and Lance Corporal Marsh for a special Assembly. They talked to the children about the Apache helicopter and their jobs maintaining them. They asked for volunteers to try on safety equipment, which the children really enjoyed!

There were prizes handed out by Mrs Mills our Service Champion for some amazing work completed by the children supporting Military Child Month.
