Year 2 – Elm

Welcome to Elm Class!

We are Year 2.

Our teachers are Mrs Pope & Mrs Bartram and our teaching assistant is Ms Amin.

PE Days

Please come into school in your PE kit (plain white t-shirt, blue shorts with a plain blue or black tracksuit over the top on colder days and trainers) on both Tuesday and Wednesday as these are our PE days! 

Home Learning

Each half term Elm class has a piece of creative home learning linked to our learning. This will be sent home with your child during each half term.

Reading in Elm Class

The children in Elm class will bring home a book of their choice to read with you. When this book has been completed, we have a box in the classroom for it to be put in and then we will know a new book is needed.

When your child reads at home could you write in the orange reading journal, please.  This might be the reading book, library book or something else they have read.

As well as this every child can choose a book from the library which they can swap on a Thursday if they wish.

During the week we will listen to each child read during group reading sessions. These books are ability appropriate and we will focus on expression, fluency, accuracy and comprehension.

Spelling in Elm Class

Each week we will focus on particular spellings.  We will read the words, practise writing them, find the meaning and write them into sentences.

These words will not be sent home, but I have put a copy of the high frequency words and common exception words on our class page on the website if you wish to do spelling practise with your child at home.

Phonics in Elm Class

This term we will continue to have a daily Phonics session to increase each child’s accuracy and fluency when reading and writing.

Times tables in Elm Class

Next week I will introduce TT Rockstars to Elm class.  This is a fun way for children to practise their times tables.  Once children have their login, they can use TT Rockstars as often as they like at home on any device.

During Year 2 we will focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
